I got my first pygmy goat as a Valentine present in 2000. We quickly found out that pygmy goats are only good as pets, so we sold the pygmy goat and bought two dairy goats.
Two dairy goats produce a lot of milk - more than we would ever need. I hate throwing away good milk. So I started searching the Internet to find out what I could do with the extra goat's milk. That is where I learned about goat's milk soap. After about a year of experimenting, I developed my current recipe.
In addition to the soap making, I started experimenting making cheese and fudge. I even bought a cheese press and have been working on recipes for hard cheese. We are now working on a goat's milk ice cream recipe. |

Dennis Sauerhage & Family have been in the orchard business for 16 years. They have been tailgating in Cincinnati for 10 years. Dennis has 3 children, all who attend college in Indiana. His wife Marie is a mail carrier for the post office. Dennis has worked for Delta Airlines for 31 years and will be retiring in 2009!!
Dennis grew up in Southern Illinois, a true Cardinals fan, and worked for farms and orchards when he was younger to make money. He learned the business by reading numerous textbooks and attending grower’s workshops in Indiana and Kentucky. He currently grows apples, peaches, pears, plums, grapes

Having been growing vegetables for the past 24 years, Brad and Marcia and sons Brandon, Bryant and Brady all pitch in to seed, plant, tend, hoe, pull weeds, irrigate, harvest and care for our crops in the fields and greenhouses. We believe that raising our children on the farm helps them to learn a good work ethic, it provides them the opportunity to work next to their parents and brothers and sister, and to help them build good personal skills by working with customers at the home Farm Market and at Farmers Market. Hopefully after all the work there is a little money left at the end of the season to go to the children's college funds. In the spring and fall season we offer school and group tours so that we can educate others the importance of farms, farmers and raising livestock and crops in every ones everyday lives.
Farm Owner Marcia Bergefurd says: " We do our best to provide our customers at all the markets with only the highest quality and the most variety in the flowers, perennials, herbs, small fruit and vegetables that our family can produce, even if Mother Nature throws us for a loop with Easter freezes and droughts, having received only 1 inch of rain at their Wilmington, Ohio farm since April". "Thankfully we have some irrigation for we can continue to plant and harvest some produce for our customers".

In the summer of 2007, after years of talk, a "foodie" alternative farming project got it's start. Thus began an unlikely journey.
On the forested banks of the East Fork of the Little Miami River in Williamsburg, OH, with the help of friends and family, we built a wood fired oven on our farm. Brick, stone, clay, and steel stood in the way of our first loaf.
We were dreaming of thick crunchy crusts and a moist crumb with layers of flavor hidden within four simple ingredients of flour, water, salt, and yeast. Baking one loaf was tough; but now we were looking to produce twenty loaves at a time in an oven 8' X 8' X 8' weighing 10 tons.
"This is an ancient baking machine," we discussed and knew that a modern residential oven with all its hi-tech gadgets bakes one loaf, but in order to produce hundreds of loaves, we'll have to take hold of our oven with six hands (Sara, Mark, and Little Jack).

The Can-Du Farm was started in 1993 by Charlie & Vaunda Ernstes.
What started out as a small plot of peppers has transformed into a family affair that includes brothers, sons and daughters along with all the
grandchildren. It's a real joy to watch children pick vegetables on the farm and then tell customers at market how they taste.
We grow a wide variety of vegetables and are just now starting to grow fruits for market. We grow using sustainable methods and are continually trying to improve both the soil and quality of produce that we grow.
We look forward to seeing our old friends at market this year and making many new friends as the year goes on.

Duncan's Doggie Delights

Duncan Gibson started selling his homemade dog bones just around his neighborhood four years ago. It all began as a hands on math project and a good lesson in people skills also. Duncan's own two dogs were his test market and helped to perfect the recipe. Duncan's Delicious Doggie Delights were quite a hit and it was suggested that Duncan try selling at the Hyde Parks Farmer's Market.
This is Duncan's third year at the market and sales are terrific! Duncan and his mom are huge dog lovers and the most fun is getting to pass out samples to all of the four legged clients at the market.
Another part of the lesson is giving back to those less fortunate. Duncan chooses to send contributions to an orphanage in Kenya, Africa.
Duncan is a fifth grader at Mercy Montessori and his dog bones are home made from whole wheat flour and sugar free peanut butter. Dogs love them and they're good for them too!

The Eaton Farm is a diversified family farm dedicated to preserving its farming heritage. The 55 acre farm near Madison, Indiana has been in Jerry Eaton's family for three generations. Today the farm family consists of Jerry and his wife Elizabeth, and his parents Jim and Sudie Eaton.
While many small farms have faced severe challenges over the past century, the Eatons feel that providing communities with fresh and local food is one way to keep farming viable. After graduating from Berea College in May of 2007 with degrees in agriculture, both Jerry and Elizabeth are excited to now be able to farm full-time. This will be their 2nd season participating in farmer's markets. In addition to Hyde Park, they can also be found at Norton Commons Farmer's Market in Louisville this summer.
The Eatons raise a wide selection of produce, with an emphasis on heirlooms and unique varieties. Just a few examples for this year include red and blue potatoes, red yardlong beans, golden beets, and purple peppers, as well as several dozen types of heirloom tomatoes. In the next few weeks, a large crop of strawberries will be ready for harvest. In addition to the crops for market, the farm also supports a small pastured poultry venture, Scottish Highlander cattle, goats, three ducks, and one horse.

A Forkable Feast is celebrating the second anniversary of its retail
operation. It has been in the catering business since 2000. The market
is a logical extension of our current operation enabling us to showcase
our new line of handmade pastas and hand crafted pestos. We are also
expanding our line of gluten free products based on a significant demand
in our community for gluten free products that taste delicious. The
cinnamon buns available at each market are a wonderful example of how
good gluten free can be! Remember our pestos are not just for pastas
anymore. They make wonderful marinades, finishing sauces for grilled
meats and vegetables and delightful bruschettas.

Both native Kentuckians, Bob grew up in Trimble County, the home of a wonderful fruit orchard that is still in operation—Bray Orchards. Though education and a civil engineering career took him far from there over the years, he never forgot those ‘Trimble County peaches.’
Anna Dale, also a civil engineer, grew up in Middlesboro, where summers found her as her grandfather’s helper in his garden of vegetables and flowers. For us, appreciation for truly home-grown produce was an every day experience. We have one daughter, Lydah, who lives and works in New York.
We purchased Fox Field Farm and moved here in 1996. Soon Bob had planted an asparagus bed, then grape vines, and of course, a garden each summer. Still yearning for “a real peach,” he ordered a few peach trees in 2001, then more and then more, trying different varieties. As the trees began to bear, we shared peaches with friends and family, though it soon became obvious that we had way too many for our own and friends’ use. Our friends encouraged us to offer our peaches for sale, so in 2005 we joined the Mason County farmers’ market for local producers only.
Fox Field is a small family farm where Bob tends the trees on a daily basis. We are a conventional grower, though we try to minimize application of sprays. We pick the fruit ourselves (sometimes friends help!) the evening before market, sort, crate and load our peaches. By allowing our peaches to ripen on the tree, we incur more damage and loss from blemishes due to fungi, insects, and especially birds. We have no refrigeration or storage facility, preferring to pick the fruit as it ripens and bring it to market only hours later for our clientele to enjoy. Ripe peaches are fragile, easy to bruise and hard to transport, but we think the flavor is worth the trouble. People can taste the difference between peaches picked green, shipped and stored, and fresh tree-ripened peaches!
We believe there is real value in continuing to do the work that it takes to bring fresh, old-fashioned peaches to market in season.
we are offering preserves made with our peaches only, cooked in small batches by the long boil method, with no commercial pectin. We are trying both a ‘no added sugar’ preserves, and preserves with only minimal amounts of added sugar, for those who want to limit refined sugar in their diets and add natural foods.
We are pleased to be part of the Hyde Park Farmers’ Market this summer and we thank you for the support we have received there. Go ahead, let the juice run down your chin, and enjoy a real peach from Fox Field!

Hazelfield Farm is a 160 acre diversified family farm located in Wheatley Kentucky. Our labor force consists of husband and wife team, Raphe Ellis and Teresa Biagi, and their daughter Admee McKee. Everything raised on our farm is 100% naturally grown. We do not believe in the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
We specialize in cut flowers, growing some 4 acres of perennials and annuals. Many of our annuals are for drying and are used for hand-crafting bouquets, wreaths, sachets and more.
Wedding and party flowers are our specialty, using only our fresh Kentucky grown flowers.
Our farm's season extends through December with fresh cut greenery, potted flowers such as papershite narcissus, and dried flowers.
We also raise over 100 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, basil and herbs, lettuce and spinach, onions, potatoes, squash, and more.
Hazelfield farm provides for a small gourmet CSA and attends at least 2 Farmers' Markets on a weekly basis.

John McGovern has kept, minded, and studied his million –plus critters since 1998. He is an Athens County beekeeper, not for the financial aspect, although the purchase of his product is not discouraged, but for the interest in knowing. "I was completely fascinated with the whole thing-the biology” McGovern said.
He began his venture ,John McGovern Bee Co. through reading a book that had been passed on to him. McGovern sets up his apiaries, or bee yards, on the property of friends. The flowers thrive on the pollination, and his friends are sweet on the honey he leaves on their porches.
McGovern produces honey, cream honey, lip balm, beeswax, and furniture polish. McGovern manages hives all over but the hives in Mt. Lookout and Mt. Washington supply the honey for the Hyde Park Farmers’ Market.
When McGovern isn’t tending to his hives, he is reading up on his next endeavor, spending time with his wife and his daughter Cecelia, and playing mandolin in The McGovern Brothers, a traditional four part harmony bluegrass band. |

What began in the belief of high quality, untainted foods for my family, has built into a business of supplying tender and tasty meat cuts without growth hormones or antibiotics. We enjoy spending time with our animals, and working around the barn. In our down time we will go out in the pasture and just relax and watch the animals graze and play.
Last spring we moved to a farm with more barn and pasture space, and are currently working hard to get our milking parlour up and running. Once this is accomplished, Zak Edwards (Cricketwik Dairy) will be moving his goats in with ours to milk them and milking them all at this one location. He then ships the milk to Swissland Cheese Co. in Berne, IN. There the milk is turned into the different types of delicious cheeses offered by Cricketwik Dairy.
This is our second season of selling our products at the Farmer's Markets and we have learned so very much from the experience, and really enjoy meeting the many different people out there. We are continuing to improve and increase our stock in order to maintain a steady supply, this is taking time but improving as we grow. We also enjoy the time spent at the Market and the food that we purchase there. |

All of the vegetables we produce at The Organic Farm at Bear Creek are certified organic to USDA standards by The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA).
We employ a seed saving program and raise our own tomatoes and peppers in a greenhouse on the farm. Fertilization and pest control are accomplished using products acceptable to OEFFA including fish and seaweed emulsions, dried blood and feather meals, minerals, soil soup from worm compost and pepper spray.
We presently till 8 of our 51 acres and practice crop rotation to help mitigate pest problems. Irrigation, in addition to what mother nature provides, comes from two natural springs on the property.

Ralph and Julie began raising Vegetables to sell when their children were still young. We had an honor system stand on our farm which was very successful. As the kids were raised and Julie worked outside the home full time, we closed the home farm market.
It was around that time that we began selling at farmers markets, beginning at Milford Ohio. We have continued to sell there through the years.
When we joined the Hyde Park Farmers market we were very excited. We have enjoyed our experiences with the management and customers at this market and plan to continue to bring sustainably grown top quality delicious produce in a wide variety, beautiful flowers, and assorted herbs to market. A farm in Mount Healthy - where? This question is often asked by folks visiting the Running Creek stand at the farmers market. Beginning in 2002, Jim and Karen developed Running Creek Farm as an "urban farm" on their 4½ acres in Mt Healthy. Jim Lowenburg and Karen Mandell raise a wide variety of vegetables and flowers on their acreage in the city.
Jim and Karen have been growing vegetables for nearly twenty years, gradually expanding their efforts to produce enough for their market stands in Hyde Park and Northside. Running Creek Farm specializes in heirloom tomatoes, specialty potatoes, gourmet garlic, fresh basil, flower arrangements and an assortment of other vegetables - all grown without pesticides.
Stop by the Running Creek Farm stand at the market and enjoy some "healthy food from Mount Healthy." If you are served by our nine and twelve year-old sons, be sure and ask them for a joke or a magic trick.

Bob and I began in 1987 with a very small green house growing lettuce. We currently have two green houses in operation and one under construction which has allowed us to grow all year around. During the s ummer months we have 3 plus acres in produce containing over 50 different items. We attend two markets during the week and supply produce to several local restaurants. We are located at:

Willow Pond Farm is in Oxford, Ohio near the Indiana border. It is our goal to provide vegetables that are full of flavor and nutrition as a result of informed cultivation.
